InTouch Running s-l-o-w-w-w.

We are using InTouch 8.0 connected to an SLC 5/05 via ABTCP at one of our sites. While we thought it was slow at the beginning (a year ago), we thought this must be normal (it was our first InTouch application, after all). Slow defined as 0.5 - 1 sec for button push to register in PLC and vice-versa.

I installed a heartbeat timer scheme in the PLC to detect the presence of WW (WonderWare) with a preset of 5 seconds - thinking that that was well more than necessary for comms.

Recently (in the last month or so), that heartbeat timer has timed out and this weekend I pushed it to 30 sec and put a GRT to capture the max value. To my utter astonishment, even this timer timed out!

FYI: we have a fairly busy "main" window - busy means about 25 animations using a total 100 or so bitmap objects switching their visibility to animate.

The PC is an AMD 2800+ with 160GB HD and 512 MB RAM.

  1. Is this expected behavior?
  2. What is the expected latency for InTouch/SLC comms using ABTCP?
  3. What can we do to speed this system up?
