AWC releases 2015 Span Tables and Design Values for Joists and Rafters

Leesburg, Va. — American Wood Council (AWC) released updated Span Tables and Design Values for Joists and Rafters in order to reflect the 2015 International Building Code (IBC) and 2015 International Residential Code (IRC). The 2015 Span Tables for Joists and Rafters updates the 2012 edition and provides a simplified system for determining allowable joist and rafter spans for typical loads encountered in one- and two-family dwellings. It is referenced in the 2015 IBC and IRC. A companion Supplement to Span Tables for Joists and Rafters, Design Values for Joists and Rafters, tabulates allowable bending (Fb) and modulus of elasticity (E) design values for visually graded and mechanically graded dimension lumber. This edition has been updated to the 2015 NDS Design Values Supplement. Changes include new design values for Southern Pine and Mixed Southern Pine lumber. Both the span tables and design values can be downloaded at www.awc.org/technical/spantables/index.php.
